Trócaire Speaker 5th April 2019
We were very lucky to have Tony Devlin a speaker from Trócaire come to talk to the children again this year.  This year all the classes learned about the organisation.
  • Trócaire has been around for 46 years.
  • Trócaire is an Irish word and means “Mercy”
  • 460 people work for the organisation and they work in countries like Africa, Asia and Latin America
  • Trócaire works for Justice and human rights and equal rights for women and men.
We got to know Maria, Patricia, Maya and their families, we learned about their lives and learned how the money that we collect will help people to help themselves.

Bee Aware speaker

As part of Eco Week 2019 some children from 2nd classes took part in a “Bee Aware” workshop and planting/Scavenger hunt.  The workshop helped the children to understand the importance of Bees –pollinators and how we all must take steps to increase our bee populations. We need bees in order to grow our fruit and vegetables, and to make sure that our countryside has lots of beautiful wild flowers.

Scoil Aonghusa Junior is going to try and make Tallaght a better place for bees and other pollinators.  As part of the Bee Aware workshop the children planted plants that bees love and we made our school garden a safe place for pollinating insects to live.
The 2nd classes loved learning about bees and they are going to Keep spreading the buzz about the bees!
