Ms. Griffin's Senior Infants

Welcome to Ms. Griffin's Senior Infants,
where fun and play are part of every learning day!

Take a look below and see what we have been getting up to...

Aistear
Clowning Around in the Costume Shop

Tis the season to...dress up! We thought October would be the perfect month to open a costume shop in Senior Infants as the Halloween prep gets into full swing in Scoil Aonghusa Junior. We have been busy running a costume shop, designing our own costumes using materials and playdough, hunting for costumes in the sand pit, building mannequins and, of course, dressing up! Feel free to stop by our class to order a costume for Halloween night... we have the best sales assistants in Tallaght and our prices won't be beat!

Art
“I don't know anything with certainty, but seeing the stars makes me dream.”
- Vincent Van Gogh

Here in Senior Infants we are learning that everyone can be an artist, and to prove it, we made an attempt at making our own 'Starry Night' masterpieces inspired by Vincent Van Gogh. We spent some time studying the famous painting by Van Gogh in September and tried to come up with our own unique names for it! Then we discussed the various shades of blue in the painting before attempting to mix our own shades of blue using blue, white and black paint. We then used sponges and our handcrafted shades of blue paint to create the background for our picture. The next day we cut a skyline out of black paper and added some starry magic to our pictures using chalk. We were very happy with the result! Try to spot the original Van Gogh painting among all our masterpieces...

Maths
Here comes the Maths monster

A maths monster has taken over senior infants... and we're not talking about Ms. Griffin!! The addition monster has come to our class to help us learn about adding as we have started to write number sentences using the signs + and = . We're getting very good at them and have been having lots of fun with all Ms. Griffin's addition and partitioning games such as 'Hide the Animals', 'What's Missing?' and 'The Ladybird's Spots'. Take a look at some of the Maths activities below.

Literacy
Sail away with a book

We love reading in Senior Infants and we have been sailing off on great adventures with our books in the new book boat! We're great at spotting tricky words and sounds we know in books and love looking at the lovely illustrations too! We're very lucky to have a library packed full of beautiful books in our classroom which makes library time all the more enjoyable!

STEM CHALLENGE
A-MAZE-ING Designs

Our teacher gave us the challenge of designing, building and testing a marble maze. We created our designs on paper, and then tried to create them in groups using various materials like dominos, Lego and wooden blocks. Finally we put our marble mazes to the test using marbles and straws. We think they were big success!

Art
Sculpting the minds of the future

We started off the year by learning that a piece of art can take many forms. We discussed the word sculpture and how it refers to a a 3-D piece of art that you can see all the way around! We then went about making our own paper sculptures and all we needed was paper, glue and a scissors! We think they turned out great, what do you think?

Science
A Colourful start to the year

We had a colourful start to the year this year as we studied how rainbows are formed. We learned the seven colours of the rainbow and then we transferred this new knowledge over to an art lesson where we created our very own rainbows! Our rainbows have pride of place on our classroom door, take a peak!
