During STEM week, there was a day dedicated to each of the subjects - Maths Monday, Science Tuesday, Technology Wednesday and Engineering Thursday. We had lots of fun, take a look at what we got up to that week!

📖World Book Day📖
For World Book Day, we dressed up as our favourite characters from a book or we wore in our comfy clothes that we wear when we are reading. We visited the book nook and had a look at some of the books, we went on picture walks and we tried to spot our sounds and tricky words. Ms Smyth came into our classroom to read us a story and Ms Murphy went to her classroom to read her class a story. We had lots of fun!
🖥️Integrating Maths and ICT🖥️
🔴Aistear: Food🔴
This month, our Aistear theme was food and healthy eating. In our socio-dramatic corner, we were in the restaurant where we could take orders, cook meals, serve people, eat food and pay our bills. We built tables with Jaggo blocks and we set the tables after, using a place mat to make sure it was set correctly. We made a variety of food items with playdough, we created healthy lunchboxes by cutting out pictures from food catalogues, we created 2D shape pizzas and we made different foods using Plus Plus. This is just a snippet of all the fun activities we engaged with during this theme!
🖥️Beebots🖥️
Beebots are programmable robots that help us to develop our problem solving skills, directional language and basic coding skills.
We have been learning all about the number one. We have learned the rhyme 'One Little Flower', we learned a number formation rhyme to help us when writing the number one (Number one is like a stick, a straight line that is very quick) and we made sets of the number one. We listened to songs about the number one and we made number one out of playdough - we really enjoyed learning about the number one!
🏏Visit from Cricket Ireland🏏
We were so lucky to have a visit from Cricket Ireland. We practised some skills such as throwing, catching and hitting the ball using a bat. We were cricket superstars!
👻🎃HAPPY HALLOWEEN🎃👻
🔴Aistear: Autumn/Halloween🔴
This month, our Aistear theme was autumn and Halloween. In our socio-dramatic corner, we were in the Witches and Wizard's Cavern where we could dress up, make potions and go trick or treating. We built homes for hedgehogs with construction materials and we acted out different scenarios when we were playing with the small world Halloween characters. We made a variety of Halloween items with playdough and we created some spooky Halloween artwork. We took on the role of witches and wizards and we made potions during water play and we also scooped out pumpkin pulp and seeds and then used stickers to create our own Halloween pumpkins!
👮Garda Visit: Halloween Safety👮
Two members of An Garda Síochána came to visit our school, they told us how we can stay safe on Halloween and the dangers of bonfires and fireworks. We listened very carefully and are looking forward to having a safe Halloween full of trick or treating!
🎭Sióg, The Civic Theatre🎨
We had special visitors from the Sióg programme which explores our connection to nature and our belief in fairies through drama and art. We played some drama games, we listened to a story about fairies and we completed some beautiful artwork!
✋Fantastic Fine Motor✋
🔢MATHS WEEK🔢
For Maths week, we had a special guest come into the school to talk about how to use our 'Maths Eyes'.
Then during the week, we went on a Maths trail around the school and used our Maths Eyes to see if we could find colours, numbers, shapes and patterns in the school environment.
We also worked on the topic of patterns - we identified patterns, we copied patterns and we extended patterns!
When we seen this piece of artwork on our Maths trail around the school, we decided to use it as our 'Maths Eyes' poster. We came up with so many questions based on this picture such as what colours can you see and how many red apples are there?
We were set a reading challenge by Ms McAdam - to take part in an Artists' Sensory Warm-Up. We were up for the challenge and completed it successfully - as you can see, we really enjoyed taking part!
Two super readers from 2nd class came to our classroom and read us stories. The first story was called 'Maybe...' by Chris Haughton and the second story was called 'Can Bears Ski?' by Raymond Antrobus. We really enjoyed listening to both of the stories!
🏃Having super fun on the soft play equipment🏃
🚶Walk to School Week🚶
✂️Cutting Celery✂️
We are learning how to hold our scissors correctly and the important rules that we have to follow when using scissors. We practised cutting playdough and some celery this week!
