This month we had so much fun playing in ‘The Clothes Shop’ , designing our own t-shirts with lots of different materials, building shopping centres, making shop fronts in junk art , exploring waterproof and non-waterproof materials, sorting clothes ,ordering belts , matching socks , making clothes from play dough, collages and much much more!!!

We are having such a busy month in Junior Infants. We have been learning all about weight. Mattie has been very impressed. We are using so much maths language especially Heavy, light , lightest , heaviest , balance and scales. We went on a weight hunt and found the heaviest and lightest item in our classroom. We also compared and discussed objects that look the same but when we held them we realised that some objects were heavier than others. We estimated and then sorted items into heavy and light. We also read a lovely story called ‘Just a Little Bit’. The mouse needed a little bit of help to play on the see-saw with elephant. Do you know why?
We have also been doing a lot of number work this month. Look at some of our hard work
Ready Set Go MAthS!
In Junior Infants we really enjoy participating in the Ready, Set ,Go Maths programme. It makes learning maths so much fun! Look at us playing the games What’s missing and Guess my Secret!
We would also like to introduce you to Mattie. Mattie is our class puppet and he makes sure that we are using our maths language. Next week he is going to be listening for words associated with weight like heavy, heavier, heaviest , light, lightest and lighter.
The days are very busy in Junior Infants learning lots of new things. After all our hard work we really enjoy taking part in movement breaks. They help us to focus on our next task. This is us taking part in one of our favourite mindfulness activities called ‘melting’.
This week we have been revising all the sounds that we have learned so far. We are working really hard on our letter formation. We also started to build and blend CVC words. We really enjoy using our whiteboards and markers.
Aistear is a very popular time in our classroom. We all really enjoy taking part in the different activities. in term one we had fun learning all about houses and homes. We built amazing apartments and semi detached houses. This involved great team work!
We also had a great time exploring the doctors surgery and the post office. We sorted all of the letters by colour and shape. We also wrote Christmas cards and posted them in our class post box. We demonstrated great perseverance and problem solving when we came into difficulty fitting the letters into the envelopes but with some thinking time we discovered that by folding the letter it made it smaller and fit into envelope very easily.
We had great fun investigating length. We experimented with play dough to see who could make the longest and the shortest worms. We then compared them with our partners and made sure that we used our maths language. Then we read the story ‘Guess how much I love you’. Working with a partners and using skipping ropes. We tried to measure how much little brown hare loves big nutbrown hare.
