We loved reading the story Handa's Surprise! There were lots of fruits named in the story, some of which we had never tried before! We tasted these fruits: Pineapple, mango and passion fruit.

Practice makes perfect! Phonics.

February 2020:
We have been working SO hard on learning our jolly phonics sounds and handwriting our letters!
We do lots of fun activities to help us practice blending our sounds together to make and read words.
We use kinetic sand and alphabet cutters to make words.
We engage in free writing with whiteboards and markers.
We use handwriting apps on our ipads to practise our letter formation.
We also love making letters using playdough!

January 2020:
We have been learning all about clothes this month! We compared winter clothes to summer clothes. We became fashion designers and practised our cutting skills when making new outfits!
We opened a roleplay clothes shop and had lots of fun buying and trying on outfits.
We also built our own clothes shops using the big blocks.

Animal magic show

Science week:

We had a few furry friends visit us in school for Science week!
We were very impressed with the chinchilla's spinning tail.
If we listened well and could answer the questions correctly we got to hold the animals.
It was SO fun!
Thank you Animal Magic!!

Trust me..... I'm a doctor!

Our new theme for Aistear is "At the Doctors". We are having so much fun pretending to be doctors, nurses, receptionists, paramedics and of course, patients!

Team hope shoebox Appeal

Well done to all the boys and girls who brought in donations and gifts for the TEAM HOPE Shoebox appeal.
We managed to collect 98 boxes in total.

Happy halloween

We are looking forward to the midterm break! The children have had a great first half - term, everybody is happy, having fun and making friends.
Look at all the fun Halloween activities we have gotten up to: making potions, junk art monsters, trick or treating and dressing up! We also tried some Báirín breac, lucky James won the ring! We played the traditional apple on a string halloween game too. It was so much fun!

Stay safe during halloween break

Picture
Our community Guard came in to visit us and make sure we know both what to do and what not to do at Halloween time to stay safe.

STEM challenge - the three little pigs 🐷🐷🐷

After we read the three little pigs story , we decided to try build the houses out of the different materials - sticks, bricks and straws. We wanted to see if we could do a better job! End result .... We think we did amuch better job. The wolf couldn't knock down any of the houses, no matter how much he huffed and puffed!

October Aistear theme - houses and homes

Autumn leaves are falling down ...

We have been busy learning all about the season of Autumn.
We looked at how animals begin preparation for Winter hibernation by collecting food and materials to build their dens.

September aistear theme - the school

We love our new Roleplay tent. This week it is our school. We are looking forward to see what it will transform into, in the future!

We love aistear!

Aistear has begun in Ms Smith's Junior Infants! Our first theme is "School". Each day we play a new activity with our Aistear group.
This week's groups are;
Construction- Building a school
Arts and Crafts - Design a school bag
Roleplay - Acting out the jobs and people in schools - teacher, principal, pupil, secretary etc.
Small world - using the small people, cars and blocks, children recreate the morning and afternoon drop off/collection.

"I can paint a rainbow..."

Picture
We have been learning all about colours in Junior infants and what better way to show off the colours we know, than by painting a rainbow!? We used cotton buds as a painting tool and painted a new colour each day!
