Making life manageable for the junior infant

Picture
Children cannot be independent if they cannot manage the equipment you provide. Give some thought to the items your child needs to get through the school day.
  • If the child cannot tie laces, shoes/runners with a velcro fastener may be the best option when starting out in school.
  • Ask yourself whether or not the child can manage their clothes by themselves. Zips may be easier than buttons, for example. And elasticated trousers may be easier again than zips and buttons.
  • If your child needs to bring a lunch or flask, ensure they are items that they can open easily. Generally, the school will provide the children with their school lunches and water flasks.
  • Try to get your child up a little earlier in the weeks before school. This will ensure a more stress free morning. When school starts, do get up a little earlier, but ensure all clothes/materials are ready the night before.
